Located in northern Myanmar, Inle Lake is a stunning lake surrounded by mountains and inhabited by mostly Shan and Burmese people. Since opening its borders to tourism, Myanmar has exploded as a hot location for many tourists, but this nation still struggles with employing a democratic system where a government-run one used to be. The northern region is still embroiled in an internal conflict with many Karen villages over land rights. Northern Myanmar is a mineral and metal rich region known for its rubies and sapphires.
