Water is a scarce source in the Sahel region of Africa. One well will serve as a water source for multiple villages. Water is usually gathered in the heat of the day after morning chores and before it is time to begin cooking the evening meal. Most days, women will work together so that the work load is shared among the group.Though many wells contain clean water, contamination is not difficult, and often happens when sewage or animals fall into the well. If there is not another water source, the water will still be consumed. Many organizations work to replace or clean wells, but well-repairs are expensive. Baptist Global Response (BGR) is one of many organizations dedicated to helping millions access clean water.
